Bio-Potential Based Environmental Control System

By Godo, Moriam; RESNA 2001: Annual Conference Proceedings, Vol. 21, No. 1, pp. 136-138
Publication Date: June 2001

Article describing a bio-potential based Environmental Control System (ECS) that was built to assist a person with a severe disability in controlling his or her immediate home environment. The system consists of a digital control box that is activated by bioelectric potentials from controlled facial movements through a transducer in a headband and a signal processor. The digital control box allows the user to control different appliances in different rooms in a home, such as a television, radio, or microwave. The ECS is meant to allow for greater independence in day-to-day living.
