Augmentative Communication Device-The Lighthawk

By Closing the Gap, Vol. 19, No. 1, p. 9
Publication Date: April/May 2000

Article describing the Lighthawk, an augmentative communication device that uses high-quality digitized speech. The Lighthawk features adjustable scanning speed and two-switch scanning, allowing the user to advance to the next cell using one switch, and to make the desired selection using a second switch. Each selection can be announced through a main speaker as it is scanned. When activating the touchpanel or switches during direct selection, the LED lights up to provide visual feedback. This feature makes it obvious to the user and others which selection was made.
