Portable, Handheld Talking Bible

By Closing the Gap, Vol. 19, No. 4, p. 38
Publication Date: October/November 2000

Article describing the Road Runner Talking Bible, which is a portable, handheld text-to-speech player that contains either the King James, American Standard, or New American Standard version of the Bible. The Road Runner was originally designed for people who are blind or have low vision, but people without reading difficulties could benefit from listening rather than reading as well. Powered by two double A batteries, the Road Runner can play continuously for up to 40 hours, and it comes equipped with headphones. The Road Runner is also equipped with a telephone-like keypad to skip from one verse, chapter, or book of the Bible with a press of a key. The user can set bookmarks in favorite passages, and the Road Runner remembers what passage was read in the previous listening.
