Language Tune-Up Kit

By Closing the Gap, Vol. 20, No. 1, pp. 8-9
Publication Date: April/May 2001

Article describing the Language Tune-Up Kit (LTK), a remedial reading software program based on the Orton-Gillingham method of structured, intensive phonics. The LTK comes in versions suitable for home and school use, as families can use the program for home schooling, and educators can use it to teach children with learning disabilities. The program is designed for students ages seven and older, and teens and adults reading at grade levels zero to four. The LTK is meant to help the student reach an eighth-grade level of reading following completion of the program. A self-paced approach is employed to achieve this goal, as the LTK provides additional instruction when necessary. The program operates on all versions of Microsoft Windows on personal computers with multimedia capabilities.
