Stacked HyperStudio: Engaging all Students in Constructive Learning

By Susi, Lauri; Laskarzewski, John; Closing the Gap, Vol. 22, No. 2, pp. 20-21
Publication Date: June/July 2003

Article describing HyperStudio, which is a multimedia software program that presents information in many different formats, including text, pictures, video, and sound. The program has the potential to make an educational curriculum accessible to all students. The computer screen’s background and text size can be adjusted to accommodate students with low vision. Spell check, find text, and the ability to import text created in other programs could accommodate students with learning disabilities. Animations and graphics can be created to present abstract concepts in a more concrete fashion, and hypertext links can be provided that lead students to definitions of vocabulary, auditory prompting, or visual cues. HyperStudio can be used to open templates in other programs, including Microsoft Word, AppleWorks, Insiration, or Timeliner. Suggestions for teaching students how to use HyperStudio are included.
