An Accessible Phone Comes Calling: A Review of the Jitterbug Cell Phone

Article provides a review of GreatCall’s Jitterbug phones, which have a number of accessible features such as picture taking, text messaging, e-mail, web browsing, games, and downloading and playing MP3 files. The phones come in a Jitterbug Dial model, which has a standard number pad, and the Jitterbug OneTouch model, which only has three buttons, including one for UP and DOWN, a YES button, and a NO button, as well as an ON-OFF button. This phone was designed for people who only want a cell phone for sporadic calls or emergencies. Jitterbug phones are evaluated in terms of the following features and criteria: (1) documentation, (2) dialing pad, (3) onscreen manual, (4) voice dialing, (5) phone list, (6) call history, and (7) voicemail. The author contends that Jitterbug phones have the potential to satisfy consumers with a wide range of needs, as people who are older, people with visual disabilities, and people who require high levels of amputation are advised to try the phones.
