Retrofitting, and Two Great Fellows to Demonstrate it!

By Laberg, Toril; Ozcal Lorentzen, Nefise; Assistive Technology: From Virtuality to Reality, Vol. 16, No. 1, pp. 163-166
Publication Date: 2005

Article focuses on smart home technology as used in Norway, where it is part of home care services in newly-built residential apartments designed for younger adults in need of specialized care. The following topics are covered: (1) availability and suitability method for retrofitting, or converting apartments to accessible smart homes, (2) the cost and available financial support, and (3) the functionality of smart home technology versus environmental control systems. The researchers believe that studies conducted on these subjects give rise to new challenges, and could broaden the scope of choice for older adults and people with disabilities who would like to continue living in their own homes.
