Paper focuses on work conducted by the European Telecommunication Standardization Institute to develop a smart house. The smart house system architecture consists of a wide range of services based on a broadband Internet connection, including: (1) voice support, (2) video support, (3) video conferencing, (4) interactive gaming, (5) telecommuting, (6) health care for older adults or people with disabilities, and (7) security monitoring. A technological evaluation of the system architecture is included.
