MUVEing Toward Accessibility

By Peters, Tom; Bell, Lori; Computers in Libraries, Vol. 27, No. 4, pp. 34-36
Publication Date: April 2007

Article focuses on issues regarding the accessibility of multiuser virtual environments (MUVEs). Users of MUVEs have avatars (digital surrogates) that move around and interact with others and with the virtual environment. The authors examine the accessibility challenges and opportunities for users who are blind or visually impaired, users who are deaf or hearing impaired, and users who have mobility or dexterity difficulties. Efforts to provide greater accessibility through electronic games and through the actions of librarians are discussed.
