Hand Brake Controls for Tractor

By Chen, Rick; Hoke, Robert; Joyner, David; O'Quinn, Ryan; Venkatesh, Kiran; NSF 2004 Engineering Senior Design Projects to Aid Persons With Disabilities, pp. 102-103
Publication Date: 2004

Describes the addition of a hand brake to a John Deere 4100 tractor. The hand brake was designed, constructed, and mounted to be inconspicuous. Developers chose a cable system, with the cable attached to a brake lever mounted to the fender. The cable rotates the brake shaft using U-shackle clamps. The addition of the hand brake increased the safety of the tractor on hilly land and augmented the user’s independence and productivity. The approximate cost for this modification is $523.
