A Breath of Fresh Air: AIR Foundation - Accessibility Is a Right
By Alexander, Amy E.; Exceptional Parent Magazine, Vol. 38, No. 5, pp. 56-57Publication Date: May 2008
Article featuring the AIR Foundation, an organization which aims to provide free computer accessibility products and services worldwide. The Foundation, whose mantra is Accessibility Is a Right (AIR), has acquired as its first sponsor the Serotek Corporation, a technology company that develops software along with accessibility solutions. The company allows AIR to provide free access to its Web 2.0 screen reader, using Serotek’s System Access To Go, to anyone with Internet access. System Access To Go is a web-resident application of Serotek’s System Access Mobile that makes Web 2.0 accessible to blind and visually-impaired users. At the time the article was written, the application was available in English, with the Foundation in negotiations with companies offering to translate it into other languages. The AIR Foundation is spearheaded by Art Schreiber, a well-known news journalist who became blind due to torn and detached retinas. More information about the AIR Foundation can be found at http://www.accessibilityisaright.org.
