Hearing Aid Compatibility With Wireless Phones and Services

By CTIA - The Wireless Association
(Pages: 2) Publication Date: 2009

Brochure provides answers to frequently asked questions about hearing aid compatibility with wireless services and wireless devices such as cell phones and PDAs. The telecoil component of a hearing aid is described, and hearing-aid compatibility (HAC) is defined in terms of radio frequency (RF) emissions (M) and telecoil coupling (T). The combined numeral rating system (1 to 4 for M as well as T) for compatibility is explained. Advice is given on trying out different models of wireless devices, ascertaining the phone’s compatibility with cochlear implants, and checking return and exchange policies. Information is also given about hands-free accessories such as neck loops and Bluetooth technology. The brochure is available in PDF on the AccessWireless.org website.
