Carson Remov-A-Lens
By Moore, Auggie; Large Print Reviews,Publication Date: March 31, 2009
Review of the Carson Remov-A-Lens, a handheld magnifier with three interchangeable lenses. In addition to the lenses, the low-vision aid comprises a handle with two small battery-operated light-emitting diode (LED) lights and a small fold-out set of legs that allow for hands-free use. The acrylic magnifiers, a 2X rimless round, a 2X rectangular, and a 4X dual lens, snap into the head of the handle. The lenses are freed from the handle by pressing buttons on both sides of the handle. The reviewer found the small LED lights to be extremely bright, the handle to provide a comfortable ergonomic grip, and the lenses easy to interchange. The square lens was found to be especially convenient for reading books, as its wide shape minimized the need to move the lens back and forth across the page. Overall, the magnifier was found to be very lightweight and easy to use. Caution was advised in removing a lens from the handle, however, as the release mechanism tended to kick the lens clear off the handle.
