DB Communicator: Advanced Communication Technology for People who are Deaf-Blind

Article describing the development of the Deafblind Communicator, designed and manufactured by Humanware under contract to the Washington State Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The system was designed to meet the needs of the greatest number of deaf blind people, including those with a range capabilities and skills, and to combine face-to-face communication, TTY and answering machine capabilities, a braille display and keyboard, and ease-of-use. The result is a system consisting of a BrailleNote mPower Braille notetaker and a cell phone with a visual display and an alphabetic keyboard, both installed with specially designed software and wirelessly linked by Bluetooth.
