Wheelchair Recycler Gives People Mobility Back

By Berman, Jillian; USA Today Online,
Publication Date: August 24, 2009

Article features a non-profit company which refurbishes donated wheelchairs and sells them to customers in need at the cost of parts and labor. Based in Marlborough, Mass., the Wheelchair Recycler was started by a man who, as a result of injuries from an automobile accident, is himself a wheelchair user. The Wheelchair Recycler customizes each chair to fit a client’s needs, having provided more than 500 people of all ages nationwide with affordable wheelchairs since the company’s inception in 1998. Two recent grants from the Christopher and Dana Reeve foundation have enabled the Wheelchair Recycler to expand its workshop facilities and purchase vans for picking up donated chairs.
