Article offers information about rental equipment for use by people with mobility disabilities during vacation trips. (1) Wheelchair accessible converted vans can be rented from companies including Wheelchair Getaways, which has locations nationwide; Wheelers and Accessible Vans of America, both of which are located in about 24 states; and AMS Vans with offices in Atlanta, Houston, and San Diego. (2) Beach wheelchairs with low pressure balloon tires are available from companies including Beach Power Rentals in Alabama; Deming Designs offering rentals, which also include a pushable chair and a beach walker, in several locations throughout the United States; and Stingray Beach Power Wheelchair, which has sold its chairs to beaches in the San Diego area, where they are available free of charge. Also listed is a website with information about free beach chair loaners along the California coast. (3) Manual and power chairs and scooters for use on cruise liners can be rented from Scootaround and Special Needs at Sea, which also rent out specialized items such as walking aids, oxygen equipment, and lifts and ramps. (4) Ramps enabling access to vacation venues such as a mountain cabin can be rented from Amramp and American Access, both of which are nationwide; in addition, American Access rents mobile patient lifts. A resource list with contact information for the rental companies is appended.
