iPad Review: From a Blindness Perspective

By Waldorf PC; Fred's Head from APH,
Publication Date: April 5, 2010

Product review evaluates the accessibility of the Apple iPad to blind users. Accessibility features discussed include (1) the Voiceover screen reader integrated into the device to enable all aspects of the iPad to be utilized, including menus and icons; (2) options being spoken aloud as the blind user glides a finger over the touch screen; a selection can be made by tapping the finger twice over the desired option; and (3) the ability to download and read e-books with the iBook app and Voiceover. In addition, the reviewer found the iPad to be sleek, thin, and smooth to the touch and lightweight enough to be easily portable.
