Back in the Game

By Bryant, Bill; Sports 'N Spokes, Vol. 31, No. 5, pp. 17-19
Publication Date: September 2005

Article features the owner of SoloRider, a company that makes golf carts for people with disabilities. The owner, who has a lower limb disability following poliomyelitis as a child, bought the company after using one of its carts, with a view to bringing the equipment to as many physically disabled golfers as possible. The SoloRider’s electronic seat swivels to enable golfers to hit shots comfortably and safely. Because of its even weight distribution, the cart reportedly transfers less pressure per square inch to the turf than a person does when walking on the green. The Sports Mobility Solutions Foundation, established by SoloRider’s owner, raises money to bring the specially designed golf carts to golfers with disabilities who cannot afford to buy them on their own.
