Use Google+ for an Easy Home Surveillance System

By Washington Post,
Publication Date: July 21, 2011

Article describes how to use the video chat service Google Plus to set up a simple home video surveillance system. The procedure involves setting up two Google Plus accounts, one for the webcam side and the other to view the stream. The user starts a chat room, a so-called Hangout, on one side and then mails the URL to him- or herself. As inactivity will result in being disconnected from the Hangout, the user needs to download a program such as Mouse Jiggler, simple software that inputs fake mouse movements. The surveillance system can enable seniors and individuals with mobility disabilities to monitor areas such as the front entrance and the kitchen stovetop from their computer.
