-- Discontinued. Verified 5/2012. Retained in database for reference. -- The Magnicam is a portable video magnifier low vision reading system that connects to any television set to provide enhanced reading ability. This hand-held electronic magnifier can be used with either the right or left hand, and can be used to read documents, newspapers, phone books, and other printed materials, as well as off-the-page scanning of bottles or cans. There is no distortion of text in the "crack" of large books or when scanning prescription bottles. The camera unit has self-contained lighting consisting of three two-inch fluorescent tubes that distributes light and minimizes glare. This light triangle will provide 10,000 hours of illumination (approximately 10 years of use). The unit has a single knob for positive or negative image contrast. MAGNIFICATION: Magnification depends on the size of TV used. Materials can zoom from 6 to 24 times original text size on a 12-inch TV set, 9 to 38 times on a 19-inch set, 12 to 48 times on a 24-inch set, and 20 to 80 times on a 40-inch television set. No focusing is necessary and there is no need for costly extra lenses. INSTALLATION: Magni-Cam connects quickly to any TV, and uses channel 3 or 4, just like a VCR. It can be connected to television sets at home, work, or when traveling. The unit is supplied with everything necessary to work with any TV. Large print instructions and diagrams are included to aid connection. OPERATION: To magnify any object, the hand held unit is placed directly over the material. Magnification changes by raising and lowering the camera. Different sized wooden pieces may be attached to the underside of the camera for steady magnification while resting the user's hand and wrist. OPTIONS: Optional accessories include a carrying case for transport or storage, and an adapter switch to enable switching between the Magni-Cam and regular television programming without disengaging the unit. DIMENSIONS: Camera unit is 2.4 x 4.4 x 1.2 inches. WEIGHT: Hand-held camera unit is 7 ounces; total system is 35 ounces. WARRANTY: 1-year limited.

Notes: Magnicam is a trademark of Innoventions, Inc. ** The Magni-Cam may be used with a computer terminal, but this configuration requires a special computer interface card. Contact manufacturer for details.
