(Verified 01/2008) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- ChatPC-II is a computer direct selection communicator designed for use by individuals with speech and communication disabilities. Intended primarily for those who use symbols, this handheld computer is built from an iPAQ palm-top computer and offers a brilliant color dynamic display along with both synthesized and digitized speech output. This device is designed in a sturdy rubberized body armor to protect the unit and includes an amplified speaker for speech quality and volume. Other standard features include two pre-programmed vocabulary sets, more than 5,000 PCS (Picture Communication Symbols)symbols (see also separate entry), a touchscreen for touch activation with a finger or stylus, nine DECtalk voices for synthesized speech, one or more hours of recorded speech (length of time depends on voice quality), graphic and photo import capabilities, and storage memory for thousands of communication pages. This communicator offers picture and/or text displays, providing an on-screen keyboard and text capabilities; however, word prediction, abbreviation expansion, and scanning are not supported. This device offers five page layout choices: 2x2, 2x3, 3x3, 4x4, and 5x5. PC Editor software for designing/editing pages on the ChatPC-II or Windows-based computer is also included. The communicator is equipped with a volume control, an on/off switch, and auto power down. POWER: Uses a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. OPTIONS: Carrying case with belt/shoulder strap. DIMENSIONS: The screen is 4 inches diagonally. WEIGHT: 17 ounces. WARRANTY: 12 months.
