Students are coached through the fundamentals of reading by Bananas the Chimp and Jack the jack-in-the-box. In four lessons, they learn to distinguish letter styles (block and cursive), match phonetic sounds to letters, and recognize the names of letters and their order in the alphabet. Students also learn to recognize and pronounce words using mastered skills. Activities feature different learning levels to challenge students as they learn. Alphabet Blocks uses animation, speech and sound effects; rewards correct responses; and encourages with smiles and words of praise. This program is available on diskette and is touch screen accessible through use of TouchWindow (see separate entry). COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh and IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Macintosh computers require System 6.0.7 or higher; 4 megabytes (MB) RAM; color monitor; hard disk. A TouchWindow is optional. IBM and compatible computers require DOS 3.1 or higher and Microsoft Windows 3.1; 4 MB RAM; a VGA monitor; hard disk; 3.5 inch disk drive; Sound Blaster (see separate entry) or other sound cards that are compatible with Microsoft Windows 3.1. A TouchWindow is optional.
