It defines individual program plans for adolescents and adults and provides planning, assessment, recording, reporting and instructional procedures for more than 700 skills. The system will provide the framework to ensure that each student or client has a coordinated plan facilitating developmental achievement across work, recreational, and residential settings. The main objective of Becoming Independent is to promote client independence, productivity and self-respect, and to facilitate deinstitutionalizating disabled persons. It also provides sequential instructions for teaching skills needed for success in eight major performance areas: Personal Management, Social Development, Household Management, Academic Skills, Home Activities, Community Activities, Job Readiness, and Work Skills. Included in the package are guides and tools for assessing initial skill level; detailed instruction suggestions, necessary materials lists; prerequisites and related skills list; eight management forms for tracking and recording progress; 21 worksheets; and a user's guide.
