--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 9/1999) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- BEST Faces is a perceptual and cognitive skills assessment and remediation program designed for children functioning on a 3 to 5 year old cognitive level. The program contains 4 games designed to test and teach basic skills in a sequential manner (which allows for both lateral and vertical progress), starting from the basic skills of cause and effect and moving to more advanced skills of matching, discriminating, associating and memorizing. The activities revolve around the features of a face. The teacher can customize the program by adjusting variables such as: game type, facial features, number of features activated, response time, visual and auditory instruction and the overlays. Adjustments in any of these variables will change the skill and the teaching level. The program automatically tracks the number of correct and incorrect responses, the response time, and the overall time the child is attending to the task, which makes BEST Faces a diagnostic and a research tool. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM PC, PC/XT, PC/AT, PS/2 or 100 percent compatible compters. The BEST Switch Interface, BEST Buttons, Dunamis PowerPad, CONCEPT Keyboard by Hach Associates, the Unicorn keyboards by IntelliTools, (see separate entries for these keyboards) or a standard keyboard are all input devices that can all be used with this software. Echo PC+ or MC speech synthesizers are also compatible. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: At least 384K of installed memory; PC-DOS or MS-DOS, version 2.1 or higher; CGA color monitor, or a display adapter capable of emulating the CGA; and either a 5.25 or 3.5-inch floppy disk drive.

Notes: This program was based on a framework developed by Dr. Dina Loebl, Associate Professor, New York University. The criteria for the design were based on neurological development theories, information processing theories, and learning theories. ** Price listed does not include domestic shipping and handling of $6. Collect on Delivery (COD) charges ($4.50) or Massachusetts sales tax, when applicable, are extra.
