(Verified 05/93) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Cranmer Perkins Brailler is Braille oriented computer device capable of Braille embossing, composing and editing text, and interaction with computers as a smart terminal. Also has graphics capability. Based on the Perkins Brailler. 4000 character memory stores several pages of Braille text which can also be stored on cassette tape. Printing speed 10 characters per second. RS 232C serial communications port is standard. Baud rates from 110 to 9600. Dimensions: 16 by 10 3/4 by 9 1/ 2 inches. Weight 27 pounds. Raised Dot Computing also includes a Cranmer interface disk which takes novice through the process of connecting a Cranmer Brailler to the Apple computer and print and audio manuals. Options with Maryland Computer Services include Braille and print or cassette manuals for $50.00 each, cable for $65.00 and separate maintenance agreements. 220 volt brailler available for $2,950. 00.
Notes: An inexpensive way to modify computer for use by blind (Kentucky Bureau for the Blind). For use as personal brailler only, not for use with large volume output. Unit is stand alone electric unit or interactive with computer. For Braille production system and computer workstation for the blind, combine this brailler with the Total Talk PC talking computer (see separate entry). Uses single sheets of Braille paper only, can not use form feed paper.
