------- "DO IT YOURSELF" ENTRY ------- PURPOSE: Device to pry the top off of flip top cans for persons with little finger strength or dexterity. Illustrates construction of a ring top opener using a U bolt with one leg cut off and the other bent, with the end flattened, to which a small metal pin is welded about 1/2 inch from the end. This is fastened to a file handle; a notch is put in the bolt to steady it on the rim of the can. The tip of the bolt is slipped under the ring and a downward motion levers off the lid. SKILLS REQUIRED: Metalworking. Welding.
