Included in a chapter entitled "Kitchen & Meal Time," this article provides detailed instructions and illustrations for making built-up handles for eating utensils for temporary or trial use. These handles can be made of foam-rubber tubing with the appropriate inner diameter for a fork or spoon handle, or they can be made of foam pipe insulation with a wedge removed lengthwise to reduce the diameter. The foam is placed over the utensil handle and secured with plastic tape, taking care to ensure that the utensil does not turn inside the foam. MATERIALS: Eating utensil, 3 inches of foam pipe insulation for teaspoons or 3.5 inches for other utensils, and plastic tape. TOOLS: Scissors or knife. SKILLS REQUIRED: Cutting.
