--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 12/2002) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- SoundProof is a screen reader program designed for individuals with learning disabilities. The program works with a speech synthesizer to "read" text as it is being typed in an MS-DOS based application. This verification is useful in instantly identifying writing errors. SoundProof also highlights each word as it is simultaneously spoken. This multi-modal visual/auditory feedback is designed to improve independence in reading and reviewing text. Anything which is displayed on-screen can be read including help menus, spell checks, data processing, and word processing material. The speed of the speech output and the portion of the screen to be read is determined by the user using either the keyboard or mouse. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM PC computers and Toshiba laptops; this program can be used with any MS-DOS application. SoundProof is designed to be used with the Keynote GOLD series of computer and speech hardware (see separate entry). The program is sold bundled with the GOLD series or as a kit for desktop computers and selected Toshiba laptops.
