(Verified 2/2009) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- ChatPC-M3+ is a computer direct selection communicator designed for use by individuals with speech and communication disabilities. Intended primarily for those with existing or emerging literacy who use symbols, this handheld computer is built from a Dell PocketPC computer and offers a dynamic color display and digitized speech output. The device can be accessed using a finger and provides one or more hours of recorded speech (length of time depends on voice quality). Mayer Johnson PCS symbols and Imagine symbols are included for customizing and creating personalized pages. Vocabulary can be added and customized on the unit. The included DesktopChat software can be used to create pages and to import photos and other images from a computer. ChatPC-M3 also contains pre-programmed starter vocabulary sets. Also included is VocabPC, a program designed for individuals with moderate cognitive disabilities and includes commonly-used carrier phrases, situational vocabulary and naming words. Space is left for customizing for individual needs. This model also offers word prediction, abbreviation expansion, and character prediction. The unit can also run standard PocketPC software. standard PocketPC applications that come loaded on the device include Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, a calendar and a calculator. Commercial PocketPC programs can be purchased and run on the device. The communicator is equipped with a magnesium case, volume control, an on/off switch, and auto power down. POWER: Uses a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. OPTIONS: Carrying case with belt/shoulder strap. DIMENSIONS: The unit is 3.5 x 5.8 inches. The screen is 4 inches diagonally. WEIGHT: 17 ounces.
