------- "DO IT YOURSELF" ENTRY ------- PURPOSE: Hand splint to enable a child with cerebral palsy to hold a pencil, crayon or stick. Discusses construction of the splint, rationale for use and advantages and disadvantages. The splint consists of 2 parts: a molded plastic forearm splint with straps to keep the hand at 20 percent extension, and a dowel for the child's fingers to fit around which has a hole to hold a pencil or crayon.
