Picture of KEYSPELL --- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 08/2007) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- KeySpell is a voice output spell check program designed for use by individuals with learning disabilities and dyslexia. It works alongside Microsoft Word, either as a stand-alone product or with speech recognition programs. It helps early learners and those with literacy difficulties to understand how words are spelled, how they sound, and the context in which they should be used. For each word, the program offers a selection of phonetically similar words and confusable terms and an example of those words in context to assist in the selection of the correct word. Searches can also be conducted based on the beginning or the end of the word according to the preference of the user. For those with dyslexia, the program can supply correct spellings even when words are badly misspelled; for example, æelephantÆ can still be found when misspelled with a consonant as ælefamtÆ. The program incorporates voice synthesis technology from ScanSoft that allows selected text to be read aloud as it appears on the screen. The program also provides phoneme-by-phoneme guides to the pronunciation of words and allows the steps taken to correct a word to be retraced. In Microsoft Word, a document can be scanned for sound-alikes, enabling the user to check each occurrence quickly. The program has a 250,000 word dictionary, which can be partitioned, using 32 categories, to suit the needs of the user either by age group or area of interest (Arts, Sciences, Sports, Business etc.). It also has a lexicon of British place names and personal names, and includes a detailed tutorial and on-screen help. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 50 megahertz (MHz) 486DX or higher processor (75 MHz Pentium processor recommended); Windows 98/Me/NT4/2000/XP operating system; 16 megabytes (MB) random access memory (RAM); 100 MB hard disk space; 16-bit sound card; CD-ROM drive.
