(Verified 12/2002) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Nomad Talking Touch Pad is a high resolution touch sensitive pad designed to provide speech for pictures, maps, and other graphics for persons with low vision. The system consists of large 9600-point pad (which is connected to a computer) and multiple software packages. Once the pad is connected to the computer, the user places the tactile pictures (i.e. maps, building / campus layouts) or raised line graphics on the pad, and then enters the important information about the graphic into the computer, storing it under a named file; after the data file is saved, the user can retrieve it at any time; at that point, when the user touches the graphic appearing on the pad, the pertaining information is spoken from the computers speaker(s). This enables the user to become more comfortable and independent in their everyday surroundings or even a place less-traveled.
