(Verified 6/2005) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Basic Learning Skills Courseware is language, math and reading tutorial program designed to introduce basic learning skills for individuals with a cognitive or learning disability. The programs in this series incorporate graphics and voice output to demonstrate and clarify concepts and provide feedback and encouragement. It features full mouse support and pull down menus, as well as on line tutorials for additional explanations. There is a comprehensive management system which provides teachers administrative control over the students' activities and the lesson plans can be individually tailored to suit the students' needs. Each program in the series contains a three-step approach which includes diagnostics or pre-testing to determine student's level; prescriptive where varied lessons are provided for students who need remediation or extra developmental practice; and mastery testing which is required at the end of each lesson before progressing. The Reading Skills Development Program helps students learn the basic priciples of reading through exercises in vowels, consonants and vocabulary. The Language Skills Development Program uses a "whole language" apporoach and teaches word recognition, pronunciation, usage in context, alphabetization and spelling. The Mathematical Skills Development Program is divided into three levels of instruction and teaches skills such as number ideas, addition, subtraction, division, measurement, geometry and fractions. These programs are appropriate for adult learners and are based on a first through third reading grade level. COMPATIBILITY: IBM and compatibles. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: IBM 512K; 3.5 inch disk drive; hard drive; color monitor; Digispeech, Covox Speechthing, Tandy Sound, SoundBlaster or VoxCard; Printer is optional. OPTIONS: Each program is also available separately for $650 or $765.
