--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 08/2012) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Visible Speech Aid is a combination hardware and software package that displays various characteristics of a person's voice as patterns on a computer screen. The user speaks into a microphone (included) which is connected to a speech processing unit (an internal circuit card in the computer). The computer then displays the utterance as one of various patterns, depending on which characteristic needs to be analyzed. Pitch, amplitude and rhythm are displayed with a target model at the top of the screen and the student's score at the bottom. Time domains of one, two, or four seconds may be chosen. A game called Duck Walk is featured that encourages young users to sustain their phonation. Visible Speech Aid is intended as a teaching tool rather than an analytic tool; it provides no quantification of speech characteristics. Certain settings are required to use the Visible Speech aid on the Apple IIGS; contact manufacturer for details. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple II+, IIe, and IIGS computers.
