Picture of PROTOTYPE -- DISCONTINUED. VERIFIED 10/2012. RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. -- ProtoType is a word processor program designed for use by individuals with learning disabilities. This program features word prediction, abbreviation expansion, spoken review of text, and use of graphic symbols to identify homophones. As text is typed, words appear across a suggestion window, which moves across the screen in line with the typing. The suggestion window learns words that are typed correctly, and suggests corrections to erroneously spelled words. Speech feedback is given for word prediction and the spell checker, with spoken definitions of commonly confused words. Compatible speech synthesizers include Text Assist, Provoice, Infovox, Dolphin, or any Microsoft speech API speech program.
