Monty is a braille text editor and large print program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This software application is designed for the production of braille and large print documents using a personal computer, a braille embosser, and a regular printer. The program uses standard pull-down menus for all functions, thereby enabling parents, educators, or employers to produce braille or large print documents without the need to learn new commands or acquire a specialized knowledge of braille.
Documents can be created within the program or imported from another word processor. File types supported include Mountbatten files, text files and Rich text format files. Braille formatting and translation options include Grade 1 or Grade 2 braille, along with characters from one of 12 included braille languages. When a document is ready, it can either be (1) sent directly to a Mountbatten Brailler (see separate entry) or embosser for a braille copy or to a regular printer for a large print copy; or (2) converted to on-screen braille to be checked before embossing. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 98/XP.
