The Lightwriter SL40 is a keyboard communicator designed for use by individuals with speech or communication disabilities. This text-to-speech device converts text to speech using the Acapela HQ module, sends and receives text messages (SMS) using Siemens GSM messaging module, and stores notes and contacts. Output can either be voice or text display on a screen that faces away from the user. The text display allows listeners to read messages from the user in noisy environments and when silence is important. The Lightwriter SL40 has a word prediction function that also acquires new words based on the user's own vocabulary. A built-in infrared control can be used to remotely control appliances, toys and home control systems. The keyboard is equipped with three changeable key guards of different depths to increase ease of use and typing accuracy. The layout is changeable between QWERTY and ABC formats. Other features include scratch resistant screen cover and an impact resistant case. POWER: Uses a rechargeable nickel metal hybrid battery. A charger is included.
