Social Skill Builder I and II are board games designed for use by children and adults with autism or cognitive disabilities. These two board games teach social, interpersonal, safety, and problem-solving skills. Game I is designed primarily for children ages 6 to 13. It utilizes GO DO cards to help children practice initiating social interactions, greetings, and conversation skills. The WHAT IF cards help children learn problem-solving techniques for common situations, and the MIRROR cards help teach emotional awareness and reading of facial cues. Two hand mirrors are included with this game to provide immediate visual feedback. Game II is designed for adolescents over age 13 and adults. This game also utilizes GO DO cards to teach further social interactions and conversation skills with others. The WHAT IF cards help teach problem-solving skills for situations more common to older adolescents and adults. The SAFETY cards are used to teach safety and self-preservation skills. Games may be played by as many as four players at one time with an adult moderator. Non-disabled and neurotypical peers often enhance this experience and add to additional learning of turn-taking, commenting, and sportsmanship skills associated with game playing.
