(Verified 8/1999) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Survival Skills Reading Series is a 22-disk money management, consumer, and community living skills tutorial program written on a fifth and a third grade reading level with a vocabulary section to introduce the students with the subject area to be covered. This series may be suitable for mainstreamed students and students with learning, speech/language, mild developmental, hearing or physical disabilities, mild mental retardation, emotional disturbances, or traumatic brain injury. The program first presents a paragraph on a fifth grade level. If the student answers the questions about the paragraph correctly, the program advances to the next section. If an incorrect response is given, the program provides an explanation and the same concept is repeated on a third grade reading level, and students are re-questioned. The programs were designed to promote reading comprehension and the critical thinking skills necessary for students to transition from school to the workplace and community living. The four units are: Personal Finance - You and Your Money; Work Series - What You Do a Good Part of Your Life; Personal Consumerism - How to be a Smart Consumer; and Contemporary Living - How to Get Along in the World. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple II, ProDos, TRS-80, and MS-DOS based computers.
