(Verified 02/2008) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Tactile Directory is a tactile and voice output map designed to provide accessibility to buildings for individuals who are blind or have low vision. It is a three dimensional floor plan, or site plan, built to scale that enables users to obtain a sense of "place" quickly and easily and to navigate independently immediately upon entering a facility. Room areas are represented by raised areas 0.5 inch thick and corridors are recessed. Individuals push their fingers along these "troughs" to follow the paths they will take through the building. On the vertical sides of these hallways are tactile symbols that represent landmarks encountered on the journey. Information is also provided through print, braille, and audio. The directory is located in a fixed position in a building and is oriented the same way as the facility. The colors are contrasting for optimum visibility. The directory is mounted at an angle and everything can be reached from a single position. It is mounted on a presentation display that can be designed to blend with the decor of the building. The stand will present two directories back to back - one of the building floor plan and another of the building in its' neighborhood. DIMENSIONS: Measures four feet above the floor with a maximum size of 60 inches wide by 40 inches high. COLOR: Black buildings on a yellow background with white and brass labeling.
