--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 1/2009) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Paging system for deaf-blind. Consists of paging MCII transmitter and SPII wrist worn receiver. This system will not alert one to sounds in the environment, it is strictly a paging system. User depresses the button on top of the transmitter to transmit a coded radio signal for approximately four seconds to a pre-selected receiver. A small light on the transmitter continues to flash for 30 seconds alerting the user it is in a transmitting and hold condition. When the flashing light stops, another signal can be sent if necessary. When the signal reaches the SPII receiver, it vibrates to let the wearer know that he or she is being paged. The transmitter is battery powered and portable. Has effective nominal range of 100 feet and can be used in homes, offices or classrooms. The SPII receiver works with the MCII transmitter (as paging system only) or with the Standard Transmitter (see separate entry) as a tactile alerting system for important sounds (ringing of doorbell, telephone, baby crying, alarm clock, etc. When alerted by the standard transmitter it sends a coded radio signal to the receiver which vibrates to alert wearer of sound through pattern. It differs from standard receiver (see other entry) in that there are no lights and there are four different vibration patterns so can be used by deaf- blind. For regular paging system for deaf use Standard receiver and MCII transmitter. SPII receiver separately is available.
