Picture of PRONTO! 18 The Pronto! 18 is a braille notetaker and voice output electronic organizer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. It has an 18-cell braille display with integrated cursor routing keys located left and right of the display; alternatively, a navistick (mini-joystick) can be used to place the cursor. The Pronto! 18 includes an eight-key braille keyboard with which the user types notes, and it provides natural speech output in addition to the braille display. It can be used as a notebook, calendar with diary, voice recorder, address and phone book, and an MP3 player. The device has four function keys for direct control of critical applications, 128 megabytes (MB) random access memory (RAM), 64 MB flash memory, and 128 MB flash dish. It also includes a 4 gigabytes (GB) SDHC memory card. The device can be used to read and write emails, navigate the Internet, and chat via MSN Messenger. The Pronto! 18 support English and German speech output. It has a built-in monaural speaker, a built-in microphone, and comes with a 3.5-millimeter stereo jack plug for headphones (not included). Data can be transferred to and from a personal computer (PC) or reading devices, such as the Poet reading machines (see separate entries) via Microsoft ActiveSync. This organizer supports GSM cell phones (reading and writing SMS). Interfaces include Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) – IEEE 802.11g, Bluetooth, USB Type A Master, Mini-USB (slave) to Mini-B type, COM port/serial, and phone. The outer shell is made of painted magnesium and the lower shell is made of plastic. A carrying case is included. POWER: Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery with operating time up to 20 hours.
