(Verified 08/2008) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Express is a telecommunication device for the deaf (TDD or text telephone - TT) that can serve as a stand alone, expanded keyboard TT when connected to a telephone and can function as an IBM compatible computer keyboard when connected to a PC. Direct incoming or outgoing communication with persons with hearing disabilities can be done in either Baudot or ASCII. The unit will automatically detect and alert (visually and audibly) the user to, and answer, incoming Baudot calls; detection and answering of incoming ASCII calls is done manually. This keyboard with built-in LCD display and thermal printer can be used at any IBM-compatible work station in offices, at school or at home. The Express has a 4K (4,000 character) buffer which can be used to dump text from the Express keyboard to the PC monitor (to a word editor or word processing program). KEYBOARD: PC AT 101 keys with 12 function keys. A mode button is given to switch modes. DISPLAY: 48-character liquid crystal display with Supertwist (STN), ultragreen LED backlight and contrast adjustment. Character height is .2 inches (5mm). PRINTER: The printer prints incoming text in upper case letters and outgoing text in lower case letters to distinguish between sender and receiver. The printer provides 24 characters per line and will print .7 lines per second. Paper size is 2.25 inches. Character size is 1.33 mm (w) x 2.4 mm (h). MEMORY: 30k of memory available for programming. Up to 30 preprogrammed messages can be sent at the touch of a key or two. TELECOMMUNICATIONS: Baudot, half duplex (45.5 baud) or full/half duplex ASCII (300 baud). COMPATIBILITY: May be used with any IBM PC AT, PS/2 or compatible computer. Express is also compatible with Televideo's 9060 terminal. CONNECTIONS: 1 power connector to connect wall transformer; 2 DIN connectors to communicate with IBM PC AT or compatible; 2 input telephone jacks to receive and send audio to telephone; and 1 output telephone jack for connection to handset or headset. POWER: Wall transformer 12 VAC, 700 mA; rechargeable NICAD battery. DIMENSIONS: 19.2 x 8.7 x 2.75 inches. WEIGHT: 1.975 kilograms.
