--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 3/2004) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Sabre ES and the Sabre ES/GT are powered wheelchairs designed for use by adults with mobility disabilities. These chairs combine the technologies of the Vision active user manual wheelchairs (see separate entries) with Everest & Jennings power systems and suspension techniques from the mountain bicycle industry. FRAME: Non-folding frame equipped with a pair of adjustable suspension bushings to cushion road shock. The suspension bushing, an adjustable strut piston with an elastomer bushing is placed between the rear of the seat and the bottom frame, allows the user to select the "feel" desired. CONTROLS: Integral or remote joystick programmable electronics. RWD: Direct-drive rear-wheel drive. SEAT: The solid seat features a front pivot joint which allows an angle adjustment of 3, 5.5, or 8 degrees. The seat comes in a choice of adult (19.5 inches) or hemi (17.5 inches) height and a choice of 16- or 18-inch depths. The seat is available in 14-, 16-, 18-, or 20-inch widths. The seat back is height- and angle-adjustable. ARMRESTS: Flip-back desk- or full-length armrests are standard. Height- adjustable armrests are optional. BRAKES: Electronic brakes are standard. User-operated manual brakes are optional. CASTERS: 8-inch pneumatic or semi-pneumatic casters are standard. Suspension caster forks are optional. WHEELS: 14-inch rear wheels are standard. FOOTRESTS: Standard. POWER: Uses group 22 or 24 batteries (not included). Gear-box release motors with adjustable positioning are standard: Positioning the motors one inch forward provides more maneuverability and positioning the motors one inch rearward provides greater stability. The Sabre ES/GT includes high performance motors. SPEEDS: The Sabre ES/GT achieves speeds up to eight miles per hour. CAPACITY: 250 pounds.
