(Verified 04/2009) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The iBot Mobility System is a powered elevating stair climbing wheelchair designed for use by individuals with spinal cord injury or severe physical disabilities. This chair uses sensors and gyroscopes to provide a variety of functions: In balance function, the chair stands on two wheels to elevate the user to reach high places or to be at eye level with others; in stair climbing function, the chair enables users to navigate stairs independently; in four-wheel drive function, the chair can navigate sand, gravel, grass, hills, and curbs up to four inches high; and, in standard function, the chair operates as a standard powered wheelchair. The remote function enables the user to to detach the joystick, and via cable wire connection, drive the unoccupied iBot into the back of a vehicle for transporting. This chair includes a lighting system consisting of positional lights (front and rear safety lights) and hazards and directionals, located on the right and left side of the seating system. FRAME: Rigid frame. The overall width is 25.2 to 26.4 inches (varies with seat width) and the overall length is 39 to 41.7 inches including footrest (varies with seat size). The turning radius is 38.6 inches in standard mode, 33.5 inches in four-wheel mode, 29.5 inches in balance mode, and 25.2 inches in remote mode. Ground clearance is 3 inches. CONTROLS: A User Control Panel (UCP)is located either on the right or left armrest. It is attached to a swing away arm to allow closer access to desks or tables. A security system provides the option to lock and unlock the iBOT to prevent unauthorized use. SEAT: Rehab seat. An optional contoured headrest and lateral supports are available. The backrest folds flat on the seat pan for transport. CUSHION: The the INDEPENDENCE maxPRO Seat Cushion with Vicair Technology is standard. ARMRESTS: Two-point armrests that rotate vertically up and back out of the way for transfers. They lock in place in the horizontal position and are unlocked by pressing the quick release lever. The armrests are height adjustable and available with the choice of arm pad that are 10.5 or 13.6 inches long. WHEELS: 12-inch drive wheels with pneumatic tires. CASTERS: 6-inch solid casters. FOOTRESTS: The length of the footrest assembly is adjustable for proper height and can swing away or is removable for transfers. The footplate can be adjusted to a comfortable angle as well as flip up and out of the way when needed. The footplates also have attached heel loops. An optional calf panel is available. POWER: Uses two nickel-cadmium 67.2-volt batteries for a range of up to 15.5 miles depending on function. A charger is included. Recharging time is 6 to 8 hours. SPEEDS: Maximum speed is 6.8 mile per hour. WEIGHT: 280 pounds. The batteries weigh 24 pounds each. CAPACITY: 250 pounds. WARRANTY: The iBOT Mobility System base frame is warranted for five years; the power base, frame, and user control panel(except items such as tires, tubes and upholstery) are warranted for two years; the footrests, lenses, bulbs, calf panel, clothing guards, laterals, and optional contoured headrest are warranted for six months; and the batteries and battery charger are warranted for six months.
