--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 4/2006) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Rascal Quantum 400 is a scooter designed for use by people who have lower extremity disabilities or limited mobility. This four-wheel scooter has all-terrain capability and can be converted to a lighter-weight three-wheeler or an indoor four-wheeler. The scooter comes standard with a removable swivel handlebar, removable front basket, a rear carry-all basket, on/off key switch, voltmeter/fuel gauge, and electric push-button horn. FRAME: Die cast aluminum take-apart convertible frame with heavy duty front and rear sections. The frame also includes rear and side anti-tippers and independent front suspension. The scooter is 47 inches long and 25.5 inches wide and has a wheelbase of 34.5 inches and a turning radius of 66 inches. CONTROLS: Universal one-hand tiller control is standard. A ConvertAble 4-wheeler dash with a modified tiller for two-handed control, a double-jointed folding tiller, and a curved tiller for more steering room are also available. Foot controls for starting, stopping, and speed are also offered. REAR-WHEEL DRIVE: Removable, rear-wheel direct drive hill-climbing transaxle. SEAT: A folding, padded swivel seat with an adjustable seat post is standard. The seat adjusts to heights of 21.5, 22.25, and 23 inches. A high-back seat with lumbar support and an adjustable headrest and an extra-wide seat with lift-up armrests are also available. Also available is an electric seat lift. CUSHION: An optional Bye-Bye Decubiti (see separate entry) natural rubber air cushion is available with or without a fleece cover. UPHOLSTERY: Gray vinyl. An optional removable, machine-washable velour seat cover is available. ARMRESTS: Flip-up padded armrests. BRAKES: Regenerative braking system with a manual- release automatic parking brake. WHEELS: Four 10-inch wide-tread pneumatic tires. OPTIONS: 3-wheeler and indoor 4-wheeler conversion packages, heavy duty weather and dust cover, headlight, 2 rear tail lights (headlight package required), walker holder, oxygen tank holder, shoulder harness/lap seat belt, lap seat belt, removable surrey top, Caboose Tag-along Cart (for second rider), PowerStar charger (allows battery charging using an automobile cigarette lighter), and others. POWER: Two removable gel cell batteries. The scooter includes a built-in battery charger. SPEEDS: Maximum speed is 4.5 miles per hour; 6 miles per hour with high speed gear and a maximum range of 20 miles per battery charge. The climbing capacity is a 25 per cent incline (14 degrees). CAPACITY: Maximum capacity is 450 pounds. WEIGHT: 156.5 pounds with batteries. WARRANTY: The manufacturer offers a lifetime warranty on the frame and a limited one-year warranty on other components from the date of delivery. Batteries are covered by a pro-rated one-year warranty.
