(Verified 1/2007) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. ---The Scout Explorer is a compact, portable, battery-operated 3-wheel powered wheelchair alternative designed for people with physical conditions resulting in limited mobility or diminished endurance. This scooter has a dual rear-wheel differential drive. FRAME: Chassis width is 25.25 inches, overall length is 44 inches with a turning radius of 36.5 inches. Ground clearance is 4 inches. A rubber-padded steel bumper/door opener is included in the construction. CONTROLS: A deluxe control box is located on the tiller and can be operated with either the right or left hand. A power lever controls acceleration, braking, and steering. Other controls on the panel include key lock, push button horn, battery-charge gauge, and top speed reducer. SEAT: Locking 360 degree swivel seat with 4-inch padding, fold-down cushioned back. The chair is height adjustable from 17.5 to 20.5 inches from unit floor to top of seat. ARMRESTS: Removable flip-up padded armrests. BRAKES: Electronic rear wheel brakes controlled by the power lever to allow the user to choose slow or quick stops. Excess energy returns to the battery for longer running time. Back wheel brake automatically locks when the power if off; a knob releases it to free wheel. WHEELS: Three 3 x 9 inch pneumatic tires. Wheel-base is 32 inches. POWER: 1 horsepower motor and 2 12-volt sealed 33 Amp/hour batteries with carrying cases. Charger is 24-volt, 5 Amp. SPEEDS: Maximum speed is 5.2 miles per hour for a range of 22 miles (rated at full charge with 150 lb. rider). Grade capability is up to 27% (15 degree incline) for a person 300 lbs. or less. WARRANTY: Limited warranty to original consumer purchaser on any defective part in material or workmanship within three years on the main steel frame, one year on component parts, and six months on batteries from the date of purchase; defective part will be repaired or replaced (at manufacturer's option) free of charge.
