(Verified 01/2007) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Rascal Convertable is a three-wheeled scooter or powered wheelchair alternative designed for use by people with physical disabilities or who have limited mobility. All models include rear carry-all baskets, removable adjustable swivel handlebar, on/off key switch, and a voltmeter/fuel gauge. Models 260, 265, 280, 285, 290, and 295 include removable front baskets. FRAME: All models are equipped with a die cast aluminum, take-apart convertible frame which allows the units to be changed to a four-wheel powered wheelchair, side and rear anti-tippers, and soft-ride spring suspension. Model 250 includes a deluxe rear section and a four-wheel front section; Model 255 includes a heavy-duty rear section and a heavy-duty 4-wheel front section. Model 260, 265, 280, and 285 include both the 3- and 4-wheel front sections; Models 265 and 285 include the heavy-duty rear section and Models 260 and 280 include the deluxe rear section. Model 270 includes the deluxe rear section and the 4-wheel front section; Model 275 includes the heavy-duty rear and heavy-duty 4-wheel front sections. Models 290 and 295 include the deluxe rear section and the 3- and 4-wheel standard front sections and the heavy-duty 3-wheel front section. Model 295 also includes the Quantum 4-wheel front section (see also separate entry for the Quantum 400). The basic model, Model 250, is 41.5 inches long and 23.5 inches wide with a wheelbase of 20 inches and a turning radius of 27 inches. CONTROLS: Models 280, 285, 290, and 295 include the double-jointed folding tiller for use on the 4-wheeler and the standard tiller with universal one-hand controls. Other models include the standard tiller with universal one-hand controls; the double jointed tiller is offered as an option. Other options are the curved tiller, the ConvertAble 4-wheeler dash with a modified tiller for two-handed steering by those with limited upper body strength, a joystick for the 4-wheeler, and a foot control for starting, stopping, and speed. Another option that fits all Rascal ConvertAbles is a joystick that provides one finger operation of speed and steering. REAR-WHEEL DRIVE: All models have a sealed, removable rear-wheel direct drive transaxle; Models 290 and 295 include the heavy-duty version. SEAT: The stanard seat on all models is a folding, padded swivel seat with an adjustable seat post. The seat adjusts in height to 20, 20.75, or 21.5 inches. Models 270, 275, 280, 285, 290, and 295 come standard with a 5-inch electric seat lift; the lift is available as an option on the other models. A high-back seat with lumbar support and an adjustable headrest and an extra-wide seat are available. CUSHION: An optional Bye-Bye Decubiti natural rubber air cushion is available with or without a fleece cover. UPHOLSTERY: Gray vinyl. A removable, machine-washable velour seat cover is available. ARMRESTS: Padded fixed armrests are standard. Padded lift-up armrests are included with the extra-wide seat. BRAKES: All models include a regenerative braking system and an automatic parking brake with manual release. WHEELS: Models equipped with the deluxe rear section have 9-inch rear wheels with non-marring foam-filled tires. Models with the standard 3- and 4-wheel front section have 8-inch wheels with non-marring foam-filled tires. Heavy-duty rear sections have 10-inch wheels and heavy-duty front sections have 9-inch wheels. OPTIONS: Removable cane and crutch holder, headlight, two rear tail lights (headlight package required), weather and dust cover, removable supermarket shopping basket, walker holder, oxygen tank holder, shoulder harness/lap seat belt, lap seat belt, coiled cable and lock security system, 6-foot extension cord for battery charger, safety flag, removable surrey top, Caboose Tag-along Cart (for second rider), Handy Kart Collapsible Cargo/Storage Trailer, rear view mirror, PowerStar charger/converter (permits battery charging using an automobile cigarette lighter), and adjustable legrests. POWER: Two removable gel cell batteries. The units include a built-in battery charger. SPEEDS: Maximum speed 5 miles per hour with a maximum range of 20 miles and a climbing capacity of 25 per cent (14 degrees). All models include variable electronic speed control. CAPACITY: Maximum capacity is 400 pounds. WEIGHT: Model 250 weighs 128.5 pounds with batteries and 84.5 pounds without batteries. The heaviest piece when disassembled is 29.5 pounds. WARRANTY: The manufacturer offers a lifetime frame warranty and a limited warranty on other parts and components for one year from the date of delivery. Batteries are covered by a one-year pro-rated warranty.
