Picture of TOBII SYMBOLMATE Tobii SymbolMate is a symbolic language picture creation program designed for use by individuals with communication disabilities and autism. This software has a large set of pre-designed templates for the creation of communication pages and boards for static augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) static devices. The templates include pages for a wide range of communication devices (not limited to Tobii), calendars, activities, schedules and storyboards. Additional templates are available and can be downloaded for free from the Tobii website. Along with supporting communication needs, SymbolMate can also be used for building visual schedules and social skills for children with autism. It also supports literacy development by allowing the educator to create books and symbol-based literacy activities for emergent readers. It is appropriate for all ages and skill levels. SymbolMate includes more than 15,000 SymbolStix symbols developed for communication, current news pictures available for download, tools for inserting text and symbols, a built-in symbol editor for modifying symbols as needed. It is compatible with Widgets, Bliss, Pictogram and PCS symbols. Communication boards created with SymbolMate can be used in Tobii Communicator (see separate entry).
