--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 11/2002) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Verbal Control Suite is a voice input software program designed to enable individuals with upper extremity disabilities to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and web browser. The package offers Verbal Mouse, Verbal Keyboard, and Verbal Navigator, and Verbal Explorer. Verbal Mouse enables the user to speak commands (right, left, up, down) and the cursor moves as if a standard manual mouse had been employed. Similarly, speaking a command such as left double click causes the task to be executed. The software may also be used in conjunction with a manual mouse, enabling those with the ability to move the mouse but lacking the dexterity to use the buttons to utilize both. The Verbal Keyboard enables the user to verbally control all keyboard functions. The keyboard operates by allowing the user to speak a letter or number and have it appear on the screen or an on-screen template may be used in conjunction with the mouse. Verbal Keyboard may be used in conjunction with the standard keyboard. Verbal Navigator and Verbal Explorer are plug-ins for Netscape Navigator and Microsoft's Internet Explorer respectively and enable hands-free surfing of the World Wide Web, as well as verbal control of other Internet functions such as e-mail. All shortcut and menu commands may be spoken and automatically executed. All components of the Suite are speaker-independent, eliminating the need to "train" the system before it can be used. However, if the user has an accent or has difficulty speaking a particular command or commands, this system can be modified to recognize alternate commands. Once modified, the system recognizes both the standard commands and the alternate commands. COMPATIBILITY: For use an IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 486DX2, 66 megahertz (MHz) or higher PC-based computer (Pentium processor recommended), Windows95, a standard Soundblaster or compatible sound card, and a microphone.
